The Power of the Line

The line work of Markus J Becker is imbued with an enormous level of energy. One initial sharp straight line can fragment into many directions: exploding into bursts of rays, a supernova, or even an entire galaxy. Upon first inspection, the lines created by Markus J Becker appear to alter and shape the surface space until they reach maturity. In doing so, he seems to reflect on the impulses of time and his surroundings and transposes this playfully and constructively.

Markus J Becker’s interest in the power of the line formed from his keen curiosity for architecture and the history of architecture. Stand-alone building structures provided the artist with an experimental field in which to explore and shape his own sense of craftsmanship and artistic inclinations.

After passing the Abitur (German A-levels) and completing civil service, he studied product design at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and graduated in 2006. He gained practical experience in conceiving and developing his design aesthetic under the guidance of Prof. Axel Kufus’s design studio and at Studio Aisslinger. He honed his graphic expertise with the corporate information designers, Moniteurs. He has continued to explore and expand upon his drawing skills since studying at university. Today, Markus J Becker lives and works as a visual artist and designer in both Berlin and Dublin.
